In cooperation with Xcel Energy and Energy Outreach Colorado, the
Governor's Energy Office funds the Governor’s Energy
Office Weatherization Program.
The program provides cost-effective energy efficient upgrades to qualifying
Coloradans. It has weatherized more than 60,000 Colorado homes since
1976, completing more than 4,000 homes each year.
Weatherization services include:
- Comprehensive energy audit
- Attic, wall and crawl space insulation
- Air leakage reduction
- Forced air furnace efficiency assessment
- Appliance safety inspection
- High efficiency lighting survey
- Inspection for other potential safety problems
Weatherization benefits include the following:
- Lower utility bills by approximately 20%, with one in four homes saving
37%
- Reduced energy consumption
- Increased overall comfort and safety of the home
- Additionally, weatherization impacts communities by:
- Reducing low-income customers' need for direct cash assistance for
utility bills
- Helping utilities meet Colorado's increasing demand for energy
- Creating local jobs
- Reducing pollution
Eligible housing types include single-family houses, mobile homes and
multifamily units - both renters and homeowners. Individuals who receive
benefits from a number of low-income assistance programs, such as LEAP,
SSI, TANF and COAP, automatically qualify to receive
Governor’s Energy Office Weatherization
Program services.
